Business Events in Nottingham and Derby
After a period of hibernation, we’re keen to get out and about so are hitting the town. Here’s our round-up on the events that are taking our fancy.
Now we’ve heard good things about this one. The next event takes place at QUAD in Derby. No details are yet online, but it’s in our diary.
PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.
It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.
Events in Nottingham
We won’t have to travel far for these as many are taking place in our Antenna home. Coming up, we’ll be attending:
Refresh Fridays at Antenna is an informal business networking event in Nottingham
These events take place every Friday from 8.00-10.00a.m. Completely informal, we’re hoping to network with other Nottingham-based peeps, Antenna members and guests alike.
Raise Your Game is a programme of events designed to drive business success. Coming up, we’ll be joining all those that have gone before to give an hour of our time after work on a Monday to pass on some of our public relations wisdom. Details to follow regarding topic and date.

Invest in Nottingham
As a Nottingham-based business, we’ll be heading to the Invest in Nottingham event on the 19 September. We’ve signed-up for the regeneration tour led by David Bishop Nottingham City Council’s Corporate Director of Development where he’ll be showcasing the city’s emerging key development and investment opportunities. After a networking lunch, we’ll then be heading over to Nottingham Playhouse for a presentation by Stephanie Sirr – focusing on the factors that distinguish Nottingham’s great quality of life.
A centre piece of the presentation will be Nottingham’s current and emerging retail offer – the Retail Pod will be there with retail specialists – Stephen Wood of Westfield will give a short presentation on the new Broadmarsh Shopping Centre. Lots of other sessions are also planned, and we’re also hoping to get more information on Nottingham’s Enterprise Zone and support for creative industries as well as finding out all about Invest in Nottingham and the Invest in Nottingham Club.
For more information see Invest in Nottingham Day and Invest in Nottingham, and the Invest in Nottingham Club.
New Business Wins for Nellie PR
It’s been a busy few months and we are very happy to announce the arrival of some very impressive new clients joining the Nellie PR VIP list.
After some early project work last year, Nellie PR has been appointed to handle the regional PR for David Nieper, as the fashion house gears up to celebrate its Golden Anniversary.
The designer and manufacturer of lingerie, nightwear and clothing for women, employs over 240 people and is famed for its attention to detail. All its collections are designed and made in England from its headquarters in Alfreton, Derbyshire, where the company also has its own boutique shop. Nellie PR won the regional PR account after being recommended to David Nieper by a journalist.
Social Media Strategy for Institute of Credit Management (ICM)
In recent months we’ve been conducting an audit of the social media activity of our client, the Institute of Credit Management (ICM). This culminated in our delivery of a social media strategy, which detailed how the organisation can best use this exciting channel to best effect over the coming years.
As well as offering guidance on the long-term strategy we’ve also highlighted some quick wins and over the next few months, as the ICM implements the strategy, we will keep you updated on progress.
Here is what Philip King, CEO of the ICM, had to say about working with us: “Nellie PR has been a real asset in helping us to develop our social media strategy. In particular, Ellen from Nellie PR is imaginative, creative and articulate. Her practical and thoughtful approach helps create an environment in which the business can develop its thinking and move ideas forward. Her input has been valuable and will deliver real payback to the business as we implement the ideas and concepts she has identified, and helped us identify for ourselves.”
Give Ellen a call on 0115 9220540, hook up via Twitter at Ellen Carroll or drop her an e-mail to discuss how we can help with your social media strategy.
Consumer Journalist Turns B2B PR Intern
Nellie PR offers paid PR internships for the talented and PR experts of tomorrow. Hollie-Anne Brooks joins us at a very busy and exciting time for Nellie PR. This girl’s got talent so here’s hoping that Hollie-Anne will make a real and long-term contribution to Nellie PR. Over to you Hollie-Anne for some of your thoughts on PR internships:
Taking on an intern within any business can be highly valuable; whether it’s a high flying publishing house which just needs someone to do the Starbucks runs or a small business who could really use the help in starting up. An intern, in the harshest sense, is basically another set of hands that will work 12 hours for the price of his/her bus fare. But is that what’s to be expected and should I, intern extraordinaire, brace myself for the hot water scalding ahead?
I’ve interned across an array of magazines, all at a time when I was based in London. My first internship began at Essentials magazine, the mid-market title run by IPC Media. I was a mere 18 years old and commuted in every single day from Essex where I was kipping on a friend’s sofa.
